If you had to for some reason buy,own and drive a boring car, which one would of be? Now what constitutes a “boring car” to me an automatic, FWD, “mid sized” sedan, or crossover. And lest say between 20-30k new, and it has to be something you could go down to the dealership in Monday and drive away. They are the blandest card. For me I has to be the Kia Optima. It still looks great, it’s not a Malibu, and I quite like the interior too.
It could have been that Accord but 1 they are too damn common, and two, the most recent facelift ruined them.

Honda Civic sport with a 6 speed manual.

If it’s gotta be FWD, I’d go with a 2017 CRV EX. Having ridden around in a friend’s, the fit and finish is impressive, as is the pickup from the new 1.5 turbo engine.

The VW Arteon, when it comes out. Or the CC.

Buick Regal Sport Touring
There’s nothing bland about 250hp and German tuned suspension

Does it have to be a sedan , or can it be a liftback?
Because, well, I daily drive an automatic FWD car that the EPA classifies as a midsize. (Prius.)

Honda Accord Sport Special Edition with a 6 speed is probably the answer. I know you said automatic, but still.
Accord V6 has an MSRP of just barely over $30k, so realistically you can buy one for just under. While it doesn’t have a stick, it does have a ton of technology and a surprising amount of speed and power. Basically 280 hp and 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with adaptive cruise control and plenty of refinement. I could live with that.

If for some reason I had to buy a “boring” car, it’d be a w123 diesel. The rest of the requirements be damned.
Sinking a whole bunch of money into a depreciating asset that you don’t even enjoy, is beyond me. And that’s putting it as nicely as possible.

Rereading, there’s a little more snark there than intended, and not directed at the OP. That said, point still stands.

Many would class mine as boring (It’s not an automatic, never driven one, never want to).
She’s a 1.4TSi, large by U.K. And E.U. Standards but midsize over there, she’s a liftback with saloon styling.
And I love her to bits.
She’s not pretentious or glamorous, but she’s not bland either. Many would class her as boring as she’s not particularly exciting or would make someone write home about but she does everything asked of her and does it well.

Ford Fusion Sport. Sure, it’s awd, but it’s a fwd based system. Truecar says the average selling price is $30.4k and it does 0-60 in 5 seconds.

I’ll allow it as it’s probably the right answer. If you’re going to be bored you might as well get 50mogbas well

No I agree wholeheartedly, most people don’t get that I spend money on parts to keep my old weird car, but I don’t get why they spend 300/month to drive something boring that looses value everyday

Accord v6 6 speed coupe or Volkswagen Passat R-Line.

But if we are doing liftbacks: My golf! I wouldn’t call it boring though.

New Ford Fusion SE with the 2.0 ecoboost engine and AWD with the sport appearance pack.
Just reread post so I guess just cancel the AWD and maybe the appearance package.

My gf drives a Prius C and I drive it quite a bit... Boring as all heck (especially since I turn into economaster driving it) but I’d take it because at least it’s a smallish hatch which I prefer.
But I will be renting a (presumably normal) Prius next month so we’ll see how that goes. Not a bad choice though... If you had to get something boring, might as well get good fuel economy...

If it’s a 2016 or 2017, it might actually be willing to play in the corners, too - I’m surprised at how good mine is at that. It’s no Miata, but it’s not bad.

The Fusion is right up there with the Optima for me, but right now the Kia looks better IMO.

The fact that I can get A plan for the fusion swings it for me.
